Homework Assignments:

Generally, your homework will be due on Fridays. However, there may be assignments (especially reading and literature circle work) that may be due earlier. Use the information below as a guide. When necessary, you will also find directions posted on this page. There may be additional resources on other pages (especially the Assignments and/or Resources pages). If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Due Friday, January 17th

English:

1) Complete Book Project Brainstorm sections assigned in class (which will be reviewed on Tuesday or Wednesday). 

History:

2) Read section 4-1 ("Beginnings") in your history textbook (pg. 112) and complete either:

(1) 4-1 "Engage with Text" (pg 66) or (2) Analyze the Artifact ("The Birth of Isaac") or (3) Analyze the Artifact ("God's Message to Joshua and the Israelites") in your Inquiry Journal. You may choose which activity will help you learn more.

Integrated:

3) Do Graphing Crops and Crowds EEI assignment (which will be passed out on Tuesday or Wednesday).

4) Complete any unfinished work.

English:

2) Read section 3-1 ("The Nile River") in your history textbook (pg. 64) and complete either:

(1) 3-1 "Engage with Text" (pg 38) or (2) Analyze the Artifact ("A Shadoof") or (3) Analyze the Artifact ("The Nile River") in your Inquiry Journal. You may choose which activity will help you learn more.

Integrated:

3) Begin working on your Fertile Crescent project. Note the patterns you want to be reflected in your amusement park attractions.

4) Complete any unfinished work (including reading Ella Minnow Pea if you did not complete it over the break).

Due Friday, January 31th

English:

1) Complete Book Project Brainstorm #1 (Part #2) assigned in class (which will be given a work period on Wednesday). 

History:

2) Read section 3-2 ("Life in Ancient Egypt") in your history textbook (pg. ??) and complete either:

(1) 3-2 "Engage with Text" (pg ??) or (2) Analyze the Artifact ("The Gateway and the Temple of Edfu") or (3) Analyze the Artifact ("Education in Ancient Egypt") in your Inquiry Journal. You may choose which activity will help you learn more.

Integrated:

3) Begin working on your Fertile Crescent project. Note the patterns you want to be reflected in your amusement park attractions, and start collecting evidence that you will include from each civilization in the analysis of the attraction.

4) Write a letter to the Holocaust survivor explaining what you learned from your field trip and how/why it was meaningful for you. (It does not have to be extensively long, but it should be specific!)

5) Complete any unfinished work (including reading Ella Minnow Pea if you did not complete it over the break). You should be finished by this week!

English:

1) Due Thursday, 2/6: Study for your Ella Minnow Pea quiz.

History:

2) Read section 4-2 ("The Israelite Kingdom") in your history textbook (pg. 123) and complete either:

(1) 4-2 "Engage with Text" (pg 76) or (2) Analyze the Artifact ("King David and the Prophet Nathan") or (3) Analyze the Artifact ("Isaish's Message to the Israelites to Help the Hungry and the Poor") in your Inquiry Journal. You may choose which activity will help you learn more.

Integrated:

3) Begin working on your Fertile Crescent project. Note the patterns you want to be reflected in your amusement park attractions, and start collecting evidence that you will include from each civilization in the analysis of the attraction. (Please note that new reources are available for you to look at on the History Website for both the laws and for Joseph, who we were supposed to discuss on Monday.)

4) Complete any unfinished work (including reading Ella Minnow Pea if you did not complete it over the break). You should be finished by this week!

English:

1) Finish reading Frankenstein.

History:

2) Read section 5-3 ("Greece and Persia") in your history textbook (pg. 176) and complete either: (1) 5-2 "Engage with Text" (pg 116) or (2) Analyze the Artifact ("King Darius") or (3) Analyze the Artifact ("The Defeat of Xerxes at the Battle of Salamis") in your Inquiry Journal. You may choose which activity will help you learn more.

Integrated:

3) Due Wednesday, 3/25: Finish working on your Fertile Crescent project. 

And before I get 100 emails, your history project is due on Wednesday. On Wednesday please provide evidence that it is done (a picture of the model with an emailed version of your brochure, or an active link, etc.) so that can start the grading.  If you have any problems, let me know.

4) Complete any unfinished work.

This week, we will have 3 PPTs on Greece, another group project (this one will be with four partners), plus discussions about Frankenstein. I am planning a bunch of conferences so please prepare accordingly. Many thanks to those of you who helped us get the system to work and who stuck with me through the getting some of the bugs worked out. I am taking advantage of Charter's offer of free Wi-Fi for 60 days so hopefully my connection my be better once the modem arrives. Friday, 3/27, is Blue Bunny Day. If you don't know what this is, all I can tell you is that it is related to Green Elephant Day. 

Due Thursday, April 2nd (Friday is a Cesar Chavez Day.)

English:

1) Study for Frankenstein quiz on Thursday. This quiz will be open note and open book (as I don't know any other way to do it, but it will be a timed test.

History:

2) Read section 5-4 ("Glory, War, and Decline") in your history textbook (pg. 185) and 6-3 "Alexander's Empire" (pg 228). Because I am giving you two sections to read, no workbook pages are required.

Integrated:

3) Due TBD: Start thinking about your Greece project. 

I don't yet know whan it will be due (currently I am thinking mid-May).  But I will post the directions over the weekend.

4) Complete any unfinished work.
